Cuba
I’ve been fortunate to visit Cuba a number of times over the years. I was there when President Obama visited, when the Rolling Stones performed their legendary free concert, and when Fidel Castro made his final journey to his resting place in Santiago de Cuba. Throughout these experiences, I appreciated the places and the people I met, and I always tried to photograph them with respect and care.
Much of my time was spent in and around Old Havana. This historic heart of the city is a vibrant mosaic of colonial architecture, colorful streets, and lively plazas. Walking through Old Havana feels like stepping back in time, where every building tells a story, some worn and weathered, others freshly restored. The cobblestone streets echo with footsteps, conversations, and the sounds of live music drifting through open windows.
Cuba is rich in all forms of art. Everywhere I went, music was in the air, from the rhythmic pulse of salsa to the melodies of street performers. The people embody this artistic spirit, their warmth and sensual passion palpable in every interaction.
The atmosphere and environment of Cuba inspires creativity and visual interest. It’s a blend of so many elements—the warm light, vibrant colors, the people, the historic architecture, and even the classic cars, that come together to create an unmistakable spirit. This combination fuels a deep artistic connection, making every moment a chance to photograph something special. In this gallery, you’ll find examples of the many facets of life and culture I encountered on my visits to Cuba.
