Winters in Hokkaido can be bitterly cold. Very few people, other than skiers, go to Sapporo in the southwest of Hokkaido this time of year.
I love the tranquility and solitude in the snow. It energizes my soul to experience the natural beauty of Hokkaido in the winter.
Lake Kushiro and Shiretoko Peninsula in the northeast provide habitat for swans and sea eagles who migrate to this region in the winter.
Wildlife is all around and being in the environment with all your senses involved is a wonderful immersive moment.
