Grand Teatro Behind the Curtain : Havana, Cuba
When first invited to photograph the Ballet Nacional de Cuba I sought to find something unique from what I had seen before. I found those special moments behind the curtain.
During long days with the music and the dancers in Havana and I became completely enthralled by what I came to love.
Studying from and interpreting choreography through my lens of the magnificent human forms in the Grand Teatro de La Habana with theater lighting and special effects was a rare opportunity that few are given.
After photographing the ballet performing several times including Swan Lake, Giselle and Don Quixote I was invited behind the curtain and given full access to the Gran Teatro. A very rare and special invitation.
The images in this gallery were made on different trips to Cuba and over several years. Few places or subjects have fascinated me as much as the ballet in Havana.
I did my best to honor, celebrate and preserve my moments with these incredible people who shared their world with me.
