Myanmar
A predominantly Buddhist country with many ethnic groups it is one of the least developed countries in the world. Since 2021 more than half a million people have been displaced throughout the country due to the post-coup fighting. Millions of people are in desperate need of humanitarian assistance.
Fortunately I visited Myanmar (Burma) before the current humanitarian crisis when the country was peaceful and beginning to show hopeful signs of progress. I enjoyed exploring rural communities where I visited daily markets and temples and got to know the people. I spent time at monasteries and ate food donated to the monks by the local community.
When I photograph new places especially in different cultures I approach slowly and get to know the people and environment before I ask permission to photograph them.
Finding the magic moment for a good photograph is the next challenge. It’s always about the light. Playing with the light and shadows in the photograph you are creating is key.
