Rolling Stones : Havana Moon Concert, Cuba 2016
In 2016, I was in Havana for a truly historic moment: the Rolling Stones' free public concert—an event that marked a cultural shift in Cuba and drew hundreds of thousands to the Ciudad Deportiva. Through special access, I was able to move freely between the stage and the crowd, capturing not just the performance but the overwhelming emotion in the air.
The atmosphere was electric. After decades of limited exposure to Western rock music, Cubans of all ages filled the venue, dancing, cheering, and singing along to every word. It felt like a moment of total freedom.
I worked quickly, knowing that moments like these don’t repeat. The tropical night air, the glow of stage lights cutting through the darkness, and the raw charisma of the band created a photographic environment that was both emotional and poetic. I played with shadow, movement, and scale, always searching for that perfect moment.
The images from that night capture the essence of something far larger than a concert—they tell the story of joy, freedom, and change. For me, they remain the definitive photographs of a legendary night in Havana.
